Neil Bath steps down from his role at Chelsea

Chelsea has announced via their website that Neil Bath has left his role as the director of football development and operations. Neil Bath has been with the team for more than 30 years and has been able to establish Chelsea’s academy as one of the best globally. 

Neil Bath joined Chelsea on a part-time contract in 1993. In 2002, he was appointed as the assistant Academy director and in charge of the Under 8-16 players. 

He served for two years and became the academy manager in 2004. As the academy manager Neil Bath was responsible for Chelsea’s youth development programme.

In 2010, Neil Bath helped Chelsea win their first youth FA Youth Cup since 1961. In 2011, he was promoted and he became responsible for the U21 players as the head of youth development.

Neil Bath set a high standard for academy football by winning six FA youth cups consecutively from 2012 to 2018.

In 2022, he became the director of football development and operations and organized loan moves for the under-21 to help with their development.

Neil Bath has transformed Chelsea’s development set-up into one of the best academies globally. He instilled a winning mentality among the academy players.
