Chelsea issue an ultimatum to Josh Acheampong
Chelsea are said to have
informed Josh Acheampong that he would not play again for the club until he
signs a new deal. The 18-year-old made his debut in the Carabao Cup win against
Barrow, but has not appeared at any level since.
Various clubs have been
reported to be interested in the services of the defender. Some of the clubs
that have been rumoured to be interested in signing Josh Acheampong include Real
Madrid, Newcastle
United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
According to the
Athletic, Chelsea hierarchy have issued an ultimatum to the defender that he
will not play again unless he signs a new long-term contract. With the interest
from other clubs, Chelsea management feel the pressure of securing the
long-term future of the teenager who can play as a right back and as a central
defender. Chelsea management are said to have blocked managers
from picking Acheampong unless he inks a new contract, with the Blues.
According to the
Telegraph, Chelsea were startled by Acheampong's choice to decline their
proposal of a new contract, despite club bosses assuming the deal had already
