Chelsea transfer plans
After Enzo Maresca is appointed, Chelsea will expedite its summer recruitment intentions in order to bring in four major players.
The
Italian is about to sign a five-year deal with Chelsea, having thrashed out a
£10 million settlement with recently promoted Leicester.
Although
Maresca won't be in charge of moves, he will have a lot of influence and has
already spoken with Chelsea's executives about possible targets.
This transfer
window, Chelsea will want to give top priority to signings of a new goalkeeper,
center defender, left back, and attacker.
James
Trafford, Burnley's goalkeeper, is one of the players being targeted, and Tosin
Adarabioyo of Fulham is also being pursued by the Blues as free agent.
Tosin
Adarabioyo is in high demand, with Manchester United and Newcastle vying for
his signature when his contract expires. Ronald Araujo who may leave Camp Nou
this summer, has also being monitored by the Blues.
Since it
was revealed that Thiago Silva will depart Stamford Bridge for his native club
Fluminense, Chelsea feels they need to sign one new center-back. Quilindschy
Hartman, a left defender for Feyenoord, has caught the attention of club
transfer gurus; nevertheless, the 22-year-old will not be able to play until
early 2025 due to recent knee surgery.
Long term,
the Blues will need a striker of the highest caliber, and it is reported that
they are still quite interested in Napoli's Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian
striker is being pursued by several elite European teams, so it's possible that
he may leave Serie A this summer.
Maresca
wants his full-backs to move into midfield when the team is attacking,
therefore full-backs are essential to his tactical play. The Blues will be
looking for a left-back.
Another
goalkeeper is also an essential for Maresca, who wants his goalie to be a
playmaker, like to Ederson.
Additionally,
Chelsea will move on with its plans to rid itself of players by June 30 in
order to comply with the league's profitability and sustainability regulations.
Conor
Gallagher, an academy midfield player, may be leaving, with Tottenham and Aston
Villa rumoured to be among the teams interested in signing him.
Borussia
Dortmund's loan agreement for left-back Ian Maatsen should be extended to a
permanent transfer, and striker Armando Broja may also go.
Chelsea
has maintained for a long time that adhering to sustainability and financial
profit regulations won't present any issues. However, in order for their sales
to be included in the 2023–24 accounts, they must make sales by June 30. This
might indicate that a few exits will occur sooner rather than later.
While the
club's entire recruiting staff has continued to concentrate on summer transfer
strategies, co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have
been focused on finding another manager after firing Mauricio Pochettino last
week. One strength of Chelsea's evolving off-field organization is their
ability to continue pushing their bigger recruitment goals even during the
period the club has been without a manager.
But, club
executives have already spoken with Maresca about their current transfer
intentions and want to continue using that tactic as soon as his arrival is
verified.
After
finishing sixth in the Premier League under Pochettino the previous season,
Chelsea thinks Maresca is the best guy to lead them back to a top-four spot.
The owners reportedly feel that Pochettino failed in his first season in
command and that the current team has the potential of qualifying for the
Champions League.
Todd
Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, and Jose Feliciano have been committed to appointing a
youthful, forward-thinking coach as the cornerstone around which to construct
their ownership of Chelsea since acquiring the team in 2022.
Maresca's
anticipated five-year deal will be a reflection of Chelsea's faith in his
long-term success at Stamford Bridge.
